LEAVE   REMINDERS

January 2, 2007 was the National Day of Mourning   for President Gerald Ford.

Career employees were   granted a day of   administrative leave. The rules for using administrative leave for national day of mourning is it must be used within six months from the actual day of mourning or before the end of the fiscal year 2007 whichever is later.  The new fiscal year begins on October 1, 2007. The administrative leave must be used by September 30, 2007 or you will forfeit it.

Birthday

In the August 3, 2007 Local Line mentioned the NWIAL had negotiated in the Carol Stream Local Memorandum of Understanding to allow APWU represented employees to submit annual leave for their birthday.

LMOU Item 4.f

“Employees will be allowed annual leave on their birthday, if they request it and if it falls on a scheduled work day. An employee wishing annual leave on their birthday (service day) must submit a 3971 to leave control not more than 45 days in advance and not less than two weeks in advance of their birthday”.

This does not conflict with the other agreements in regards to submitting a 3971 in the LMOU. This would do more to guarantee approval

45 Days Advance

Speaking of other agreements in the LMOU, employees are reminded that the submission for annual leave other than the choice vacation period from December 1 thru February  28th or 29th (excluding December 25th thru January 2nd) can be submitted 45 days in advance. The old agreement was for no more than 30 days in advance.

LMOU ITEM 12

“Employees desiring annual leave outside the choice vacation period, shall submit a written request on PS form 3971 to their supervisor. The request cannot be submitted more than 45 days in advance. Such leave shall be granted on a first come first served basis.

Such requests shall be received and retained in numerical order and the earliest request shall be honored in numerical order when sufficient replacements are not available to honor all requests. Employee will be notified within ten (10) days whether the leave has been approved or disapproved for the particular day or days.

Over 440 Hours Annual Leave

It is not too early for those employees who might have over 440 hours of annual leave by January 4, 2008 to think about using or donating the excess leave.  If you do not use the excess leave by January 4, 2008, you will lose it.

Annual Leave in Lieu of Holiday Leave

Annual leave in lieu of holiday leave. Some employees were told they were not eligible to receive annual leave for working their holiday in lieu of holiday pay.if  they were drafted for the holiday. This is not true. You can choose to receive annual leave if you work your holiday whether you were drafted or volunteered. You only need to fill out a 3971 and put in the box for remarks. Example:

Annual leave in lieu of  holiday -2007 labor day. The 3971 must be turned in before the end of the tour on the employee’s designated holiday.
